Activities and Curriculum

Classroom Activities
We encourage the total development of each child (spiritual, social, emotional, physical and intellectual), so we plan a variety of activities each day to meet individual needs. We have learning centers which include blocks, art, home living, manipulatives, math, science, and books. The learning centers help to develop many skills, such as language & literacy skills, social skills, cognitive problem solving skills, and large and fine motor skills. During the free choice of activities, teachers and assistant teachers offer guidance, motivation, and encouragement to children on a one-to-one basis or in small groups.

Chapel Services
Our 3, 4, and 5 year olds attend Chapel every Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. in the Sanctuary. Each Chapel service includes a Bible story, music and prayer.

Music & Movement Class

Our 3, 4, and 5 year olds attend Music and Movement Class every Monday with our music teacher, Ms. Ruth.  They are introduced to music concepts and instruments.

Library Time
The 3, 4, and 5 year old classes enjoy going to the library every Thursday in our Children?s Library.  Each child checks out one book each week to take home, fostering responsibility and love for reading.

Gross Motor Development

At First Baptist we have two playgrounds; one for the younger classes and one for the older classes. We also have a full size indoor gym for additional motor skill development and perfect for rainy days!

Field Trips

Throughout the school year our children visit places such as the Pumpkin Patch, Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, the Teddy Bear Clinic at St. Mary's Hospital, Maymont Park, and The Ronald McDonald House.

Little Kicks
In partnership with the Richmond Kickers, we offer Little Kicks on Wednesdays during three eight week sessions.

Monthly Mission activities include:

  • Fun band-aids for pediatric patients at the Medical College of Virginia

  • Food drives for the hungry

  • Collect gloves & hats for our homeless friends

  • Paper products for the Ronald McDonald House
  • Christmas presents for patients at Children's Hospital

  • Collecting coins for "A.S.K." (childhood cancer)
