Upward Basketball is a program designed to give children (both boys
and girls) and their families a positive sports experience by partnering
with local churches to build character, self esteem and salvation. The
season will incorporate practice, games, devotions, and a celebration
event at the end of the season. The emphasis is on skill development
and spiritual growth. Upward is a national organization and you can
learn more about them at their website, www.upward.org.
Upward bases its philosophy on the parable of the sower and the seed
in Mark, chapter 4. All season we cast seed, the good news of Jesus
Christ. Prayer partners are the fertilizer that enriches the ground
on which the seed is cast.

Who can play?
We welcome all 1st through 6th grade boys and girls in the Richmond
area to sign up and play.

When does the basketball league start?
Below are the key dates for the 2008-2009 season:
Evaluation nights (so even, fair teams can be formed)
Everyone must attend one basketball evaluation. They will take place at the First Baptist Church Gym as follows:
1st and 2nd Grade Boys/Girls
Monday November, 10th between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.
3rd and 4th Grade Boys/Girls
Tuesday November, 11th between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.
5th and 6th Grade Boys/Girls
Thursday November, 13th between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.

Practices begin the week of Monday, January 5, 2009. First Game - Saturday, January 17, 2009.
