New this year - Upward Cheerleading
Upward Cheerleading teaches the fundamentals of cheerleading by focusing on strong skill development and provides a safe, fun and affirming experience. Learn new stances, motions, jumps, cheers and pom routines while making new friends! There will be no stunts. Upward Cheerleading is open to Kindergarten through 6th grade girls.
What is Upward?
Upward is a program designed to give children (both boys and girls) and their families a positive sports experience by partnering
with local churches to build character, self esteem and salvation. The
season will incorporate practice, games, devotions, and a celebration
event at the end of the season. The emphasis is on skill development
and spiritual growth. Upward is a national organization and you can
learn more about them at their website, www.upward.org.
Upward bases its philosophy on the parable of the sower and the seed
in Mark, chapter 4. All season we cast seed, the good news of Jesus
Christ. Prayer partners are the fertilizer that enriches the ground
on which the seed is cast.

Upward Basketball
Upward Basketball promotes character, self esteem, and salvation to each participant, while teaching basketball skills. Upward Basketball offers a non-competitive, non-threatening environment where every participant gets equal playing time and will start an equal amount of games during the season. We welcome all 1st through 6th grade boys and girls in the Richmond area to sign up and play.

Evaluations and Orientations
Below are the key dates for the 2009-2010 season:
Evaluation nights for basketball (so even, fair teams can be formed)
Everyone must attend one basketball evaluation. They will take place at the First Baptist Church Gym as follows:
1st and 2nd Grade Boys/Girls
Monday, November, 16th between 6:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
3rd and 4th Grade Boys/Girls
Tuesday, November, 17th between 6:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
5th and 6th Grade Boys/Girls
Thursday, November, 19th between 6:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
Makeup Evaluation Night
Tuesday, Dec. 1 from 6-7:30
Practices begin the week of Monday, January 4, 2010. First Game - Saturday, January 16, 2010.
Orientations for cheerleading
Cheerleading orientations will take place in the dining hall for kindergarten through 6th grade girls.

Monday, November 16, between 6:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
3rd and 4th Grade Girls
Tuesday, November 17, between 6:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
5th and 6th Grade Girls
Thursday, November 19, between 6:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
Makeup Orientation Night
