Jessica Ward
Director of Communication

358-5458, ext 117

Jessica Ward (who prefers to be called “Jess”) has served Richmond's First Baptist
Church since September 2013. She comes from a live, local TV news background and
loves all things to do with journalism. Her vision for FBC is to make the worship
services easier to access digitally (webcast, broadcasts, podcasts) and most
importantly: in person.

Perhaps the most visible element of the Communication Ministry is the weekly
television program, which airs on Richmond's WRIC-TV8 and streamed live on the
church's web site Sunday mornings at 11:00 a.m. The media team also streams a live
WebClass Bible Study every Sunday starting at 10:00 a.m.

The Communication Ministry is also in charge of:

  • The church's web site and social media pages
  • The church’s online magazine, First Things First
  • The Sunday bulletin
  • The in-house newsletter, First Family News
  • Advertising and public relations for the church
  • The Media Resource Ministry, which duplicates and distributes DVDs & CDs
  • The Sound & Lighting Team, which provides technical support for worship
    services and other events.

In case you’re curious, Jessica graduated Cum Laude from Emory & Henry College
with two degrees: one in Mass Communications and one in English Literature. During
her junior year, Jessica interned at WDBJ7 in Roanoke, VA where she was hired back
(twice) as a temp worker during school vacations. Two weeks after graduating,
Jessica started her somewhat brief career as a TV News Producer at WCYB in Bristol,
VA. She went on to work for WATE in Knoxville, TN and then NBC12 here in
Richmond, VA.

Jessica grew up in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia where anything less than four
inches of snow would never result in school closings. She is married to Chris Ward,
who is an organist, Richmond paramedic, and loyal UNC fan.
