David Powers has served as First Baptist Church's Media Minister since 1993.
David's primary responsibility is Media and Communications.
Perhaps the most visible element of the Media Ministry is the weekly television
program, which airs on Richmond's WRIC-TV8 Sunday mornings at 11:00. David serves
as producer of the program.
The Media Ministry publishes the church newsletter,
First Things First, which is available on this
web site and is mailed weekly to church member homes; and Wednesday Night News,
which is available on the dinner tables in the dining hall each week. We also
provide desktop publishing services, such as the Sunday worship bulletin, promotional
brochures, and educational materials.
Other areas of the Media Ministry include:
- The church's web site;
- Advertising and public relations for the church;
- The Media Resource Ministry, which duplicates and distributes DVDs,
CDs, video tapes, and audio tapes;
- The Church Media Library, which maintains more than 8,000 holdings,
circulating about 2,000 items per year; and
- The Sound Console Operations Committee, which provides for sound reinforcement
of worship services and other events.
David is a graduate of the University of Georgia’s Journalism School and
earned his masters degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Prior
to joining the FBC staff David was Media Minister for Broadway Baptist Church
in Fort Worth, Texas (1982–1987) and Production Manager in the Audiovisual
Department of the Southern Baptist International Mission Board (1987–1993).
He has worked in commercial radio and television, advertising and public relations.
David and his wife, Devra have two grown sons: Preston and Alex.
