Prayer Ministries
Here are the eight aspects of the FBC Prayer Ministry. While specific times
and locations are associated with each aspect, it is understood that individuals
may engage in prayer and may fulfill any of these aspects at other times and
other places.
Petitionary Prayer
Purpose: to pray for the sick, bereaved, and sustained prayer for missionaries.
Fulfilled by those attending the midweek prayer service, Wednesday evenings at
6:00 in the Dining Hall.
Catalyst Prayer
Purpose: to pray for the many ministries of our church, which fulfill our
mission statement to make disciples of Jesus Christ. Catalyst prayer is to
empower through prayer those who are actively involved in providing joyful
worship, spiritual nurture, and compassionate outreach to Richmond and
throughout the world.
Fulfilled by believers who are called to intensive prayer for those serving our
church and those reaching out to the lost and unchurched.
The group meets Wednesday evenings at 6:15 in the Adams Room.
For more information, contact
Martha Smith.
Intercessory Prayer
Purpose: to provide intensive prayer support for the many needs that
surface from our TV Ministry, our congregation and our community.
Fulfilled by those who give an hour a week to intercede privately in our prayer
room for these needs. The Prayer Room is available every hour during the week
when the building is open.
Quiet Time Prayer
Purpose: to spend time with God, listening and developing a closer,
personal relationship with Him.
Fulfilled by disciplined disciples who have a daily personal time for Scripture
reading and prayer.
Prayer for Missions
Purpose: to pray for missions and missionaries around the world, as well
as missions in the U.S., Virginia and Richmond.
Sponsored by Baptist Women
Fulfilled by Baptist Women and many other participants throughout the year.
Specific weeks of prayer are set aside in December, March, June and September.
Prayer Walking
Purpose: to walk through specific areas of the city, praying for the
people in that area. Prayers are offered for those who work and live there, for
the homes, for the people who are met during the prayer walk.
Prayer Evangelism
Purpose: to reach the lost and unchurched by praying for those
encountered in the neighborhood, at work or at school.
Fulfilled by individuals and small groups who have a heart for reaching the
lost.
Small Groups
Purpose: to participate in a small group that prays for the needs of one
another as they meet to study and pray.
Fulfilled by small groups in Sunday school, weekly groups that meet in home and
businesses for prayer.
