Neighbors At Hand
A Ministry of Neighbor’s Helping Neighbors.

What is this ministry all about?
This ministry is really about people helping one another when they are unable to help themselves. For instance, an elderly woman needs a door fixed or her house cleaned but cannot afford nor find anyone to come to her house and do it. Or maybe a disabled gentleman needs his hedge trimmed and yard mowed but is unable to find someone he can trust or afford to do the job. That is where Neighbor’s At Hand comes in. Volunteers from this ministry are willing to help clean house, do minor repairs, do yard work, move people to a new residence, or just move a sofa across the room. Whatever people need done that they cannot afford or find someone else to do or do themselves, we are there to help. We need to return to a time when neighbor’s helped neighbors.

How Does This Ministry Work?
If a person qualifies and has an “emergency” need around the house that they cannot afford to have taken care of or cannot find someone to do, they call us. They give the details of their situation and it is sent out to a base of volunteers via email. Only the need is sent out, not the person’s name who is requesting the assistance. If someone is able and willing to respond to the need, they notify us with a return email. Then we give them the phone number of the person requesting help and they call and set up a time for the work to be done. Simple as that! There is no charge for the labor. There may be a charge for supplies but the requestor’s approval will be secured first. Most of our volunteer’s are church member’s or affiliates so they are people you can trust.

What happens if no one responds to my request for assistance?
It is possible no one will volunteer to fill your request. There are no guarantees when you submit your request for help, however, we will make every effort to do so.

Who is eligible for this program?
Church members of First Baptist have first priority but everyone is eligible. However, only elderly and disabled people who cannot afford to have the work done or do it themselves may qualify.

What types of assistance do you offer?
There is really no set list. The best thing to do is call, submit your request, and let us discuss if it is something we think our volunteers can and will do.

How Can I Help?
Contact Steve Blanchard in the Missions Office and let him know that you are willing to help.
