Is this what life in the Kingdom looks like?

Jesus talked a lot about the Kingdom of Heaven. He used many parables to describe what the Kingdom of Heaven is like.

Our Pastor has challenged us to look around and see where God is at work… where the Kingdom of Heaven is being brought down to earth right here in Richmond and around the world.

Where do you see the Kingdom of Heaven? Is it when members of your Sunday school class care for a sick or bereaved member? Is it when a busy adult stops to help a child who's lost? Do you see "Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, in Richmond as it is in Heaven" on Thursday nights at Grace Fellowship, or at the shower ministry on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays? Maybe you see the Kingdom in your neighborhood, or at your workplace.

You are invited to look around, take a photograph, and send it in along with a few words describing the picture.

Hopefully, the photos will inspire and challenge us.

Send your photo and a brief description to David Powers - Powers@FBCRichmond.org.

The Kingdom of heaven is like Carol Hyatt serving a meal to a homeless person at Grace Fellowship, a weekly ministry of FBC which serves people who are poor or homeless in Richmond. (submitted by Win Grant)
The Kingdom of heaven is like Ralph Starling welcoming Mixteco (an indigenous population from Mexico) kids living in a Richmond trailer park to Vacation Bible School at First Baptist Church. (submitted by Reid & Millie Flinn)
The Kingdom of heaven is like the gift of a warm winter coat from the clothes closet at First Baptist Church. (submitted by Ann Phaup)
The Kingdom of Heaven looks like the Richmond Baptist Association's Christmas Store, where church members from all over Richmond collect toys and clothing and distribute them to people in need. (submitted by Mary Palmer)
The Kingdom of Heaven looks like Acteens wrapping gifts to be given to the Cofer- Decker-Fellowship Class members, helping those men, all long time members of First Baptist feel special and remembered by our church. (submitted by Allen Cumbia)
The Kingdom of Heaven is like volunteers from FBC and other Richmond churches building a Habitat for Humanity house in south Richmond. (submitted by Mary Palmer)
The Kingdom of Heaven looks like Jack Pierce and others who volunteer their time and expertise to make repairs and spruce up Camp Alkulana, a summer camp for Richmond inner city children. (submitted by Mary Palmer)
The Kingdom of Heaven looks like FBC Cub and Boy Scouts, who spent the first two Saturdays in November collecting 3000 pounds of food for the Central Virginia Food Bank in the Fan and Northside. Through the generosity of those who live in the neighborhoods around our church and the collection efforts of our scouts, thousands of meals will be served to those in need.   The Kingdom of Heaven looks like FBC members visiting, praying, listening and loving members of our church who are no longer able to attend. (submitted by Christie Hartsock)
When we go to where we are needed and willingly offer our sweat and expertise to build a community shelter, we are helping to bring in the Kingdom of God. Building a community shelter was one of many ways a group from Richmond's First Baptist Church reached out to the community of Helena, Arkansas during a summer mission trip in 2008. (submitted by Mark Norton)
The Kingdom of Heaven looks like FBC members in the live nativity at the Weinachtsmarkt (Christmas Market) in Amberg, Germany. 2008 will be the seventh year teams have travelled to Amberg at Christmastime to prayer walk, ring handbells, or do whatever is necessary to bring the Living Savior to this little Bavarian city. (submitted by Patty Whitfield)

The Kingdom of Heaven is like Mobile Ministry volunteers going out every Saturday morning to meet homeless folks on their own "turf" - offering a cup of coffee, conversation, and some of life's basic necessities.

The Kingdom of Heaven looks like volunteer missionaries teaching Honduran children songs and Bible stories.

The Kingdom of Heaven is like 70 members of First Baptist Church who travelled to Slovakia last summer and spent a few days helping to repair an orphanage.

The Kingdom of Heaven is like the folks who go to Slovakia every summer to teach English and share the love of Jesus.

The Kingdom of Heaven looks like hundreds of children in one of the poorest areas of the United States: Helena, Arkansas - who eagerly participate in sports, swimming and Vacation Bible School led by volunteers who give a week of their vacation and pay their own expenses to go and spend time with them.

Your photograph here!

Take a picture that shows an example of the Kingdom of Heaven and send it, along with a brief description to Powers@FBCRichmond.org.
